Andrew Lane became Executive Director of the Johnson Family Foundation in 2007. Now in its third generation of family involvement, JFF supports the development of healthy, vibrant and just communities where individuals, families and the next generation of leaders will thrive. JFF's grantmaking is place-based and, in environmental health and LGBT issues, national in scope. Since 1990 JFF has awarded grants in excess of $31 million.

In addition to implementing the board’s vision for JFF's strategic direction and overseeing its staff, programs and operations, Andy manages the foundation’s LGBT grantmaking, which focuses on mental health, youth and movement building. JFF is one of the largest institutional funders of LGBT issues, having invested nearly $8 million in the movement to date. Andy also advises JFF’s Chairman on his personal giving in support of LGBT equality.

Andy serves on the board of Funders for LGBTQ Issues, where he is Chairman; the advisory boards of the Movement Advancement Project and the Palm Center at UCLA’s Williams Institute; and the grant review committee of the Williams Institute; and the grant review committee of the Queer Youth Fund. He is a former board member of the New York City Anti-Violence Project (2002-04) and The Paul Rapoport Foundation (2003-09). In 2011 Andy was appointed by the Obama administration to the Executive Committee of the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention and as Co-Lead of the Alliance’s LGBT Populations Task Force.

In 2012 Andy became Chairman of Funders for LGBTQ Issues, a philanthropic affinity group that mobilizes resources to enhance the well-being of LGBT communities, promote equity and advance racial, economic and gender justice. Funders facilitates communication and coordination among the 300+ institutional grantmakers that support LGBT issues, collectively accounting for approximately one-fifth of the movement’s annual revenue. Andy joined the Funders board in 2009 and previously served as its Treasurer (2010-12).

From 2006-09 Andy served as President of The Paul Rapoport Foundation. The foundation is a leading funder of LGBT organizations in and around New York City, having invested more than $11 million since its inception in 1987. In 2009 Andy led the strategic planning process that culminated in a unanimous determination by the board and staff to spend-out the foundation’s assets by 2014 in order to maximize impact. As a result an additional $5 million will be invested in organizations serving low-income queer people of color who are youth, elders or transgender.

From 2000-07 Andy held a variety of positions within the philanthropy unit at U.S. Trust, culminating in an appointment as Senior Vice President and Team Leader of Foundation Advisory Services. In this capacity he provided grantmaking and advisory services to foundations established by some of the nation’s wealthiest families, served as a program officer for foundations where the bank was trustee and had supervisory responsibility for the administrative services provided to several dozen clients.

Andy started his career in the Management Services training program at J.P. Morgan. From 1997-2000 he served as a Program Associate in the Community Relations department, where he reviewed grants for the J.P. Morgan Charitable Trust and client foundations and ran the employee giving campaign. In 1998 he also co-founded Wall Street’s first officially recognized LGBT employee resource group.

Lane is a native of Western New York and a summa cum laude graduate of Hamilton College.
